Who:               The Denham Springs City Marshal

What:             Deputy School Liaison Officer

Why:               Marshal Jerry Denton announced that the office will continue to provide a school liaison officer to the schools within his jurisdiction of Ward 2 and Ward 7 in Livingston Parish for the school board. Deputy Andre Sylvester was assigned the duty to provide additional assistance to the coverage already provided to the schools outside of Denham Springs, but within the jurisdiction. Deputy Sylvester recently has completed the GOHSEP School Based Threat, Risk, and Vulnerability Assessment Training (SBTRVA) and is certified in SBTRVA.

Marshal Jerry Denton said the schools where this service is provided are; Gray’s Creek Elementary, Seventh Ward Elementary, Juban Parc Elementary, South Fork Elementary, Lewis Vincent Elementary, Eastside Elementary, Juban Parc Junior High, and Southside Junior High. The Marshal said that while some Principles requested the Deputy Marshal to not go in school buildings, we still provide a service by going through the parking lots and providing higher visibility as a deterrent to potential problems. Denton says even though his agency is not tasked with providing this service, the mandate to serve the public and provide a safe environment for our children is the deciding factor in providing this service.

Safe Business Night

For Immediate Release

The Denham Springs Marshal’s office recently conducted a “Safe Business Night” operation, led by Marshal Jerry Denton and nine Deputy Marshals.

All businesses within the jurisdiction of the Marshal’s office were visited “after hours” by Deputy Marshals as a courtesy. This was done to ensure that every business was secured and no unwanted activity was present. Also, to help reduce unnecessary business cost due to theft, especially during this downturned economy. Hang tags were left for owners to inform them that an inspection had taken place. If any issues were observed, details were noted on the back of the hang tag. During the operation, five businesses were found to have unlocked front doors. These businesses were checked for any burglary activity, vandalism, and unauthorized persons on premises. The doors were secured and the owners were immediately notified by the 911 Communications Center. Marshal Jerry Denton hopes this service will discourage vandals and keep our citizens property safe from harm during the night. The Marshal states this is an on-going operation that will take place at unannounced intervals several times a year.
